How to Use Pixels to Inches Converter

Before you use the converter above, there are things you might need to know first, either you use the conversion for web (css), for print media, or you just want to know the dimension of a device.

Working with web

As previously mentioned, if you are working with web and going to convert px to inches, according World Wide Web Consortion, there are 96px per inch (PPI).

The PPI above is default to 96px in favor for web usage. You can skip down to the converter instructions.

Working with print media

However, if you want to convert px to inch because you want to design something in Photoshop or whatever software you are using and you want it to look the same when it is being printed, you may want to know about what is PPI and DPI.

PPI or pixels per inch, as the name implies, it is a measurement used to calculate how many pixels are there in 1 inch.

So if you see an image property that says it has 300PPI, this means that there are 300 pixels inside every 1×1 inch of that image.

For example, you want to print a 8″ x 10″ image and it has 72 pixels per inch (PPI, others call it image resolution). Then, you want to print the same 8″ x 10″ image but this time it has 300 pixels per inch.

Which do you think looks blurry and which do you think looks pretty professional? You can say that the one with 300 PPI is much clearer than the one with 72 PPI. You get the idea, right?

On the other hand, DPI or dots per inch is just a printer measurement. 1 dot is equal to 1 pixel. So if you have a 4″ x 6″ image with a 96PPI (resolution) but you are printing on a printer that takes 300DPI, the image surely looks not so close to the original, unless you change the resolution of the image to 300DPI.
